DEPUTY COMMANDING GENERAL'S BIOGRAPHY

Brigadier General Erik Peterson received his Regular Army commission in 1986 as a Distinguished Military Graduate of the University of Idaho Reserve Officer Training Corps program. He was assigned to the Aviation Branch and completed flight school in 1987. His professional military education includes: Aviation Officer Advanced Course, Combined Arms Service Staff School, Command and General Staff College, and the National War College. He has earned Bachelor of Science Degrees in Geography and Cartography and Master’s Degrees in Business Administration and National Security Strategy.

Brigadier General Peterson’s assignments include: Section Leader and Platoon Leader, 271st Combat Aviation Company, Camp Humphreys Korea; Bravo Company Platoon Leader and Company Commander, and Headquarters Company Commander, 3rd Battalion 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne), Hunter Army Airfield, Georgia; Adjutant and Battalion S-3, 2nd Battalion 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne), Fort Campbell, Kentucky; Battalion Executive Officer and Bravo Company Commander, 3rd Battalion 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne), Hunter Army Airfield, Georgia; Senior Special Operations Aviation Observer Controller, Joint Readiness Training Center, Fort Polk, Louisiana; Battalion Commander, 2nd Battalion 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne), Fort Campbell, Kentucky; Director, Flight Concepts Division, Fort Eustis, Virginia; Brigade Commander, 10th Combat Aviation Brigade and Chief of Staff, 10th Mountain Division (LI), Fort Drum, New York. Brigadier General Peterson served in Operation DESERT SHIELD/DESERT STORM, Operation UPHOLD DEMOCRACY, Operation ENDURING FREEDOM, and Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.

Brigadier General Peterson’s awards and decorations include: two Legions of Merit, six Bronze Star Medals, five Meritorious Service Medals, the Air Medal with V device and numeral 5, the NATO Meritorious Service Medal, the Combat Action Badge, Master Aviator Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge and Australian Parachutist Badge.

MISSION

The U.S. Army Cadet Command selects, educates, trains, and commissions college students to be officers and leaders of character in the Total Army; instills the values of citizenship, national and community service, personal responsibility, and a sense of accomplishment in high school students.
